Tips for building cap table, understanding investor "universe?"

I am interested in discussing how people have approached (1) building their investor lists, (2) developing investor relationships, and (3) allocating cap tables. Also, are there any tools or databases people have used to better understand the search fund investor "universe" as it has continued to grow over the years? Open to any all feedback! Thank you.
